Yes, Atlas is getting back into the steam engine market with a 19th century American 4-4-0 N scale steam engine.
Few took notice when Kirk Reddie included a small blurb in N Scale Railroading’s March/April 2012 “Horizons” column about an Atlas 4-4-0. That’s because the first release is a special run for Lowell Smith’s “Walt Disney’s Carolwood Pacific Series” and the N scale steam locomotive hasn’t been officially anounced by Atlas yet.
But, over on the Atlas forum, Paul Graf of Atlas has confirmed that it is indeed on its way. Check out the thread HERE.
Photos of the pre-production sample of Atlas’s N scale steam engine appear at The Disney Project website. Lowell Smith brought the sample to a recent presentation covering trains and Walt Disney.
With the nice work Atlas did on fancy period paint schemes for the miniscule Porter imported in conjunction with Micro-Ace a few years back, we can’t wait to see what other railroad schemes they put together for this new model. The Carolwood Pacific N scale steam engine is due in second quarter 2012.
