Mike and I made our annual trek to Trainfest in Milwaukee this year as part of the Modutrak layout display, but one of the aspects we always look forward to is getting around to various vendor areas to check out the latest N scale products. With our camera in tow, we took a few minutes to photograph some of the latest models, pre-production samples and more. BLMA wasn’t able to make it out this year but announced new CEFX modern reefers which you can check out here. Kato was at the show but had no new announcements (yet) and brought their very nicely done Metra units for display in addition to all their other newer releases. The rest of the cover follows…
Fox Valley Models
Just prior to Trainfest FVM announced a 2012 Preview which we ran as a blog item. The announcement had a few CAD drawings of the GP60M and B units, new Milwaukee Road bay window caboose with modified oil door, an all-new Milwaukee Road 50′ single door boxcar, more HO and N Hiawatha schemes. Matt also brought along the latest painted samples of his forthcoming Milwaukee Road bay window rib-side caboose, B&O wagon tops and production samples of new Milwaukee Road coaches and BNSF GEVO (with revised orange paint that is closer to prototype color).
MicroTrains brought along a sample of their forthcoming paired-window heavyweight coach based on Pullman Plan B&O #2882-B.
ConCor had a running sample of their late model Burlington Zephyr with twin headlight/Mars light on display. The original first-run model is a great piece and well done. If you’re looking to pick one of these up, now is the time.
ExactRail had a sample of their n-scale 64′ Trinity modern reefer unit with new draft box for the coupler. ExactRail said the new draft box will be implemented on all of their past n-scale releases (so look for new runs of their existing models) plus future to-be-announced models. They promise new N scale is coming!
Atlas had their coil car and trash flat on display as well a few other paint samples of future models.
Athearn had their latest run of bay-window caboose on display as well as their latest run of PS-2 hoppers. Athearn also announced metal wheel sets as well.
Bachman had their latest run of ACF 50’6″ box car, USRA Light 2-10-2 and ACF 10,000-gallon single-dome tank car.
Intermountain had samples of their latest passenger cars including their forthcoming RPO and baggage cars. Also on display were the latest modern reefer releases.
Wheels of Time
Wheels of Time had their forthcoming PC-90 Piggy Packer painted samples on display and they looked really good. They also had a sample of their new Sea-Land 35-ft 16 Rib Fruehauf Container which will be available in kit form.
Bluford Shops announced a new transfer-style caboose lineup…
