Atlas Model Railroad Company has acquired Walther’s N scale locomotive and rolling stock tooling. Following on the heals of Lowell Smith purchasing passenger car tooling from Walthers, now Atlas has announced that they have acquired the tooling for Walthers N scale locomotives and rolling stock. This includes Life Like tooling previously acquired by Walthers as well. Some of the items produced in N scale by Walthers previously include:

  • Thrall 5-unit articulated 48′ well cars
  • EMD SW1200 locomotives
  • Difco dump gondola
  • 48′ ribbed containers
  • PS 4427 covered hoppers
  • bay window caboose
  • Russell snow plow
  • 50′ double door wood sheathed box car
  • steel coil car
  • 53′ GSC flatcar
  • 5 bay Trinity covered hopper
  • steel reefer
  • 2-bay Greenville open hopper
  • 50′ exterior post box car

Life Like previously produced locomotives:

  • USRA 0-8-0
  • 2-8-8-2 Mallets
  • 2-8-4 Berkshires
  • ALCO C424
  • ALCO DL-109
  • ALCO FA-1 and FB-1
  • ALCO FA-2 and FB-2
  • ALCO PA/PB
  • ALCO RS-2
  • ALCO RS-10/18
  • EMD BL-2
  • EMD E6
  • EMD E7
  • EMD E8
  • EMD GP9R
  • EMD GP18
  • EMD GP20
  • EMD GP38-2
  • EMD GP60
  • EMD SD7
  • EMD SW-8
  • EMD SW-1200
  • Erie Builts
  • FM C-Liners

Obviously some of the above tooling is quite old at this point and Atlas will likely look carefully at current holes in the N scale locomotive space. Plus a number of these mechanisms would need updating to current DCC and sound mechanisms. So we’ll see what happens.

Here is the press release put out today by Atlas:

For Immediate Release:
